    Standing Committee Descriptions    

    THE UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO
    FACULTY SENATE

    Standing Committees of the Faculty Senate

    Senate Committee on Academic Programs.  The Senate Committee on Academic Programs shall study and report on proposals to create new degree programs and on proposals that change existing degree programs by adding, substituting or deleting courses at The University of Toledo.

    Senate Committee on Academic Regulations.  The Senate Committee on Academic Regulations shall study and report on proposals to create or amend academic rules and regulations of general application in the University that affect the functions of teaching and research, including admissions, curriculum, and grading.

    Senate Committee on Constitution and Rules.  The Senate Committee on Constitution and Rules shall study and report on proposals to amend the CONSTITUTION of the Faculty Senate, RULES of the Faculty Senate, and the BYLAWS of the Board of Trustees.  The Committee shall be responsible for the printing and distribution to the University Faculty of amended versions of the CONSTITUTION and RULES.

    Senate Committee on Faculty Affairs.  The Senate Committee on Faculty Affairs shall act as a liaison between the Faculty and the Administration on matters of common interest and shall study and report on matters of policy concerning faculty responsibilities, rights and welfare.

    Senate Committee on Faculty Elections.  The Senate Committee on Faculty Elections shall be responsible for administering the provisions of the Elections Appendix to the CONSTITUTION of the Faulty Senate.

    Senate Liaison to Student Senate. The Senate Liaison to Student Senate shall act as a liaison between the Faculty Senate and the Student Senate.

    Senate Committee on Implementation.  The Senate Committee on Implementation shall check and report on the carrying out of previous Senate legislation and recommendations.  The Committee shall be responsible for developing and maintaining a record of the actions taken by the Senate and of their subsequent status in the University.  A minimum of three follow-up reports should be made annually by the Committee to the Senate.

    Senate Committee on Student Affairs.  The Senate Committee on Student Affairs shall act as a liaison between the Faculty, the Student Government, and the Administration on matters of common interest, and shall study and report on proposals pertaining to student life.

    Senate Committee on University Affairs.  The Senate Committee on University Affairs shall study and report on matters affecting the University community as a whole that do not come under the jurisdiction of the other standing committees of the Faculty Senate.

    Senate Committee on University Budget.  The Senate Committee on University Budget shall provide the Faculty senate with information and analyses of the University’s budget planning processes.  The Committee’s activities shall include but not be limited to (a) presentations of information on the budget to the Faculty Senate, (b) analyses of current, proposed, and past budgets, and (c) preparation of such reports and proposals as requested by the chair of the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate.  Membership shall include one member of the Senate Executive Committee, preferably the Senate representative to the Finance subcommittee of the board of Trustees.  In addition, Senators who formerly served as faculty representatives to the Fiscal Resources and planning Board will be deemed ex-officio members of the Committee.

    Senate Committee on University Planning.   The Senate Committee on University Planning shall engage in the study of proposals that would affect the organization, performance, and physical facilities of the University community.  The Committee also shall evaluate and report on the planning and decision-making processes of the University.

    Senate Committee on Undergraduate Curriculum.  The Senate Committee on Undergraduate Curriculum shall formulate and articulate guidelines for the implementation of the university-wide core curriculum and for the development of courses that are to be included therein, serve as a final reviewing body for new undergraduate course proposals originating in all colleges, oversee implementation of the University’s Transfer Module and approve courses which are proposed for inclusion in the document, monitor curricular offerings throughout the University for unnecessary course duplication and inconsistencies in credit hour/contact our ratios, develop guidelines for the establishment of a university-wide curricular data base through which students from all colleges can conveniently access syllabi from every course in the university catalog, study scheduling patterns to assure balance among the course offerings from the various divisions of the university core curriculum, and coordinate the dissemination of information on new courses to advisors in all colleges.  Membership on the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Curriculum shall be determined by Faculty Senate Executive Committee appointment and must include: one representative from the University Libraries, one representative from Student Government, and one percent of the faculty from each of the undergraduate colleges with a minimum of one member from each.

    Senate Core Curriculum Committee. The Senate Core Curriculum Oversight Committee was created to obtain data regarding core course offerings and routinely makes scheduling suggestions to departments.  Initiate a five-year review of core course syllabi to ensure that the content continues to fulfill the specified core area and that any modifications that may have occurred sustain the core status of the course.  This Committee will institute and implement ongoing assessment methods for evaluating the efficacy of the core.
